HISTORY

THE
MAISON
COGEVI

The history of Champagne seen through the COGEVI story.

The Maison COGEVI* (Coopérative Générale des Vignerons), dedicated to the history of the cooperative from the beginning of its creation to the present day, is the only museum of its kind. It goes beyond the business context to chart the development of the vineyard and the Champagne appellation throughout the 20th century, from historical, social, political and economic viewpoints.
As a direct result of the Champagne winegrowers’ revolution, the COGEVI was founded in 1921, supported by passionate men who were determined to protect their heritage, expertise and independence.

MUSEUM

The work in the vineyards and the development of the wine are illustrated through a unique collection
of original tools with a very impressive staging.

The museum overlooks the vines, and the tour continues outside along a marked path with illustrations, explaining how the vineyard changes over the seasons. This walk leads to the foot of the vents (ventilation chimneys for the underground cellars) in front of a stunningly beautiful panorama.
